a late welcome to 2021

Hey Friends!

Do you remember me?

I know its been a hot minute, but I am glad to say I am back in action and hopefully not going anywhere. I know my last post was about half a year ago and I have come to the conclusion that life isn’t going back to normal anytime soon. I tried to stay motivated throughout the beginning of this Pandemic however, as most of us did, I fell off the motivation train. Stopped doing anything productive at all. I went to work and did what had to be done, but then what? The nights were filled in silence and my dogs heavy breathing in my ear (she likes to sit right beside me in case I want to pet her).

Uncertainty filled 2020.

It was such a weird year. There were so many people posting thing online about how to be productive and how we (a lot of people in society – not me because I stayed working) have all this time to learn new skills, start a business, do home renovations, etc. so we better use this time wisely or else we are just wasting it. I know for me personally, not doing any of this productive crap people are listing off made me feel worse about not doing anything and then it ended with spiralling into a hole. What kind of hole I do not know, but none the less a hole. A hole that you are trapped in and you can’t claw your way out of it. If you were extremely productive last year then hats off to you, that is amazing.

Now fast forward to 2021 and we are still in this Pandemic. A lot of people were optimistic about this new year and very hopeful. I was skeptical … turned out I was right. We are back in a lockdown where I live and nothing has changed. It feels like we are still in 2020; a snow covered 2020.

2020 did bring me a few new experiences and exciting chapters in life though:

  • May of 2020 I moved into my first room.. yes a room. I went from always renting apartments on my own to moving into a single room with two male roommates. Let me just say it was an experience like no other lol. Always something happening and always food around … not food any vegetarians or vegans would enjoy. Overall, it was a memorable and entertaining experience to say the least.
  • June of 2020 I landed my first official paid photography client. This led to others in the months to follow. An amazing experience it was. I have done a variety of shoots since then and am hoping to put my ad back up once the restrictions lessen a bit and we have more freedom to wander around again.
  • Late August 2020 I officially purchased my first home. Yes I am now a home owner 🎉 It was an extremely long process that took almost ¾ of a year from start to finish. In the end it was 100% worth it. Multiple rejected offers and spending my weekends and evenings walking through houses all paid off. I love my little house and the little town I live in now. I am much happier out of the city than in it that is for sure.
  • November 2020 I put up the first Christmas lights in my house and bought my first real adult Christmas tree. I know #adutling right? Little did I know how expensive a tree is haha at least the one i bought is reusable! This may sound minor to some of you, however if you know me at all you will know how much I love Christmas lights.

Then New Years came and all the resolutions start going around. On the other end of the spectrum though, people are still stuck in that hole (we discussed this earlier – scroll up if you need a refresher 😉 ) and in a down mood because we have all come to the realization that this Pandemic is still far away from being over. If I am being honest, I was a solid mix of those two emotions. I had all the intentions to jump at 2021 and start crushing goals and dreams (lol feels cheesy saying that). Then a week passed, and another week passed, and I realized I was stuck in the same sad 2020 rut. So now, into almost the end of the third week of the new year, I have pulled myself somewhat (#stayathomeattire) together and am ready to conquer 2021. Off to a late start but that does not mean that we won’t or can’t achieve anything big right?

I am motivated now and I WILL crush this year. Say it with me!

How have you guys been? How was the last half of your 2020 and the start of your 2021? I have missed reading all the comments after I publish a post so please share your thoughts below! 🙂

Until next time,

Stay safe! xx

  1. Glad to have you back! I got married in October of 2020, it was not the wedding we had planned but we are happy and thriving. Currently looking to buy a house, the process is defiantly time consuming.

  2. So, even though 2020 was a real drag for pretty well everyone, I’d say that you accomplished some major milestones.
You’re probably just “over it” as my daughters would say, as in, had enough already. Stick to your plans and dreams, this is the year that this poopstorm will finally start to slow down and end. Things will get better for everyone, soon. So glad that you’re back, keep it coming. 👍

  3. Hey stranger, welcome back! It’s funny; I was thinking about you the other day while conversing with some Canadian friends.

I am so glad to hear from you! Yep, 2020 was quite the ride, but not necessarily a good one. I have stayed busy with work (investment advisor), and have managed to keep my blog going well. For me, the blog has become almost like a job, but in a good way. It has motivated me to keep working on my photography skills and to get outside and enjoy nature.

I am sure you know of our American troubles, and well the stress levels are off the chart. So just reading a post from my old Canadian friend, made me smile.

Thank you for staying with it, even if you had a bit of a break. We are all one big community on WordPress, and I truly value our friendship and connections. Stay safe and stay positive, and congratulations on the new house. Yeah!

      1. Ha Ha! I am laughing about the Canadian part. you think you were kidding; boy over the last few years we have really thought hard. We may retire to Canada. I don’t know what has happened to our country — well I do. We lost our way, and we don’t seem to value real news, education or learning anymore. Sad stuff. Glad to chat, and I hope you are doing well. Your puppy, now a dog, is so cute. Keep trying to stay positive. And maybe if we get past COVID here, we’ll see about becoming Canadian, eh! Right now, you all won’t even let us in, and who can blame you. 😂
