Today I bring you a life update. Over this summer I have not been consistent with my posting. I moved to a new city, got a new full time job, tried to explore around and keep up with all the social activities.
However, even with all these new changes something was still off. I was not feeling fulfilled or happy with what I was doing with my life. That is why I chose to go back to school this fall to get educated in what I have always been interested in. The world of Design. I have always loved designing and creating things ever since I was little – I just never understood where to start because I enjoy so many areas of it.
I love creating on the computer, but also hand on projects. I love building, but also delicate close up photography. There are so many areas of “art” I would love to explore, but I have always strayed away from it because naturally I am good at sciences and math. I am not the best drawer out there either and I always thought to do anything in art you need to be good at drawing, but I have been told otherwise so now I guess I will put that information to the test eh!
I am enrolled in the Design Studies certificate program at Algonquin College. My first legit art schooling ever. It is unbelievably nerve wrecking to walk into a classroom and not know how good you will do. I always had an idea of the grade I could get and relatively how hard the course would be because I had taken so many science courses before. Now its completely opposite. I know nothing about this side of school – scary yet exciting at the same time.
Going back to school at the completely opposite end of the spectrum I am use to is forcing me to open up my mind to new ideas and to truly embrace the creative side of myself that I have always wanted to explore. The scientific side of me would of never started this blog – but the creative side said go for it.
That is was I am doing – going for it.
I am excited to see where my mind will be come April when this course is done, but for now its a mystery to you and me. I will keep you guys updated with my thoughts and where my head is at with the art world. Hopefully I love it.
I am 22 – now is my time to explore what I want to do.
Find what makes me happy.
… while of course protecting the environment as I go because without our environment we could not be here doing what we love.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have ever done something like this before, I would love to hear about your experiences 🙂
Todays post will just be a quick one to introduce the series I am starting. If you read my update post a couple months ago, you will know that earlier this year I went to the United Kingdom.
The purpose of this was to surprise my sister (Kennedy) who I hadn’t seen in a long time. She graduated in December with her Education Degree and was offered a million jobs all over the world. She took one in Bristol, UK and that is where her journey began.
My parents were planning a trip to see her and Kennedy wanted me to go so bad, but I kept saying I couldn’t go (which at the time I actually thought I couldn’t) however, things change! One night I was talking with my mom on the phone and she said that if I could get the time off work, they would help out with the expenses.
Literally the next day I went into work and asked for the time off. My amazing boss said yes and I was so happy! I told my parents and that is when we decided to not tell my sister, we were going to surprise her on the other side of the world! This ended up being a lot harder then I expected though. Kennedy and I talk a lot and we were basically planning for me to come down at another time later in the year (with me knowing that she would see me well before this). It was the only way I could get her to stop asking me to come when my parents were going!
I believe we had to keep this secret for at least 2 months, if not longer, and she actually had no idea!
On the flights there, we all had a group chat to keep Kennedy updated, and I was in it but acting like I was so jealous that my parents got to go haha my parents and I were just laughing the whole way there because she still didn’t know!
Once we arrived in London, going through customs took forever. Kennedy had told my parents that she would meet up with them their second day there, but she also lied and had a surprise! She was waiting at the arrival gate for us the whole time! None of us saw her as we walked through the opening and then all of a sudden, BOOM I legit get tackled by her with a hug. She was so surprised and we were too!
One of the best moments ever.
Anyways, this is just a little introduction to the planning and arrival of us in London and the big sister secret surprise! Many many more posts to come from this trip. I already got overwhelmed just trying to sort through the good and bad pictures today!
Sorry I left unannounced. Life got insane. Like holy crap.
But on the plus side of the last few insanely busy and hectic months I got lots of pictures! Which I will be sharing regularly again now that I am almost settled… well not really, but posts will be back!
So near the end of February this year, my boyfriend and I found out that he got a job in Ottawa, ON Canada. This job is much better then the one he had, so of course he took it. I didn’t mind moving. Obviously it is very stressful and costly, but its also really exciting and spontaneous of us. We are usually very routine people haha so looking at each other and being like… “ya babe lets do it…lets move across the country!” is absolutely uncharacteristic of us, both individually and as a couple, but here we are!
Now, once we officially knew that we were moving, shit got real – real quick. We literally sold 90% of our apartment belongings in a week, packed everything up, and headed out. My boyfriend came to Ottawa straight away to begin his new job. I went back up to Fort McMurray and painted my parents house and then went to Europe and surprised my sister! She is teaching in Bristol, UK right now. My parents and I all went over seas to London and toured around a bit, spending most of our time with my sister in Bristol. Man was she ever happy to see me… uh well I mean the parents too obviously… haha she knew my parents were coming but not me! We surprised her and she surprised us at the airport. It was a win for everyone!
So the trip was about a week and a half and there will many posts from all the pictures so don’t you worry! Once back from Europe it was back to work at the parents house. Finishing up things so I could jet out of there! (lol just kidding … love those old folks) But once you have been living on your own its hard to go back to living with your parents! Who can relate?!
Anyways, that next Monday we (mother and I) were off to Ontario! My mom with the truck packed to the roof and I with my old rusty Rav4 loaded to the ground, hit the crappy pavement running. Bright and early trying to grab a quick McDonalds coffee before we headed out, but as per usual it took way longer then expected.
We took 3 days to drive 37 hours across the country. Lots of driving, lots of coffee, lots of music and audio books, and lots of laughs and memories. I will always appreciate road trips, even if my butt is numb for most of the time. When we arrived in Massey, ON Canada it was around dinner time. My grandma had all the goodies cooked up for us.
Well hold on now, she didn’t know I was coming either! I surprised my grandparents with the news that I was moving to Ontario in person! They were very surprised to see me unannounced like that, but also very happy…I think! Lots of hugs were given and received and smiles went all around. With me living in Ottawa now, I am only 5.5 hours away from the grandparents instead of 37! Much better eh!
I stayed with them in Massey that first night, and then we headed to Sudbury, ON (1 hour drive). This is where I got to surprise my cousins, etc. We hungout that night and ate Chinese food. A grandparent classic!
The next day I went off to Ottawa in the afternoon (5.5 hour drive). Since then (almost a week now) I have been running around trying to get lots of important adult things done and in the back of my mind the entire time all I could think was, I need to update my blog peeps on whats been going on!
And there you have it. My last couple of months update. Hectic and impulsive but worth it so far! Now time to finish up all of the things I need to get done and find me a job haha moving provinces isn’t all fun and games!
I promise to upload a regular post in the very near future. Many many cool and exciting pictures and stories to come! How have your last few months been? Any big or exciting changes happen?! I would love to hear down below 🙂
Total Drive time: 43.5 hours 😉
P.S The header picture is from our flight home from London, its the Arctic Ocean!

If you could pick any age to be again what age would it be and why? I would pick to go back to when I was 7 or 8? The age you were in grade 3! haha I would love to go back to that age because firstly I miss being a kid lol but I also had a great teacher that year, Madame Jenkins. At Christmas time (my most favourite time of year, as you all very well know) she had this amazing book of christmas gnomes. She would read us a chapter everyday until break. I had never loved school that much haha story time was the best!
Name one of your most embarrassing moments? Now let me just say, I have had quite a few haha but for now I will settle with sharing just one… to save you all from cringing too much! I grew up doing competitive gymnastics and probably around age 6 I would say, this embarrassing moment happened. I was wearing my brand new vibrant pink gym suit that had a checkered pattern on it, which I called my picnic basket suit lol, for the first time. And lucky for me, it was one of those training sessions where the ENTIRE gym does a warm up together … yup keep that in your mind. So I thought I should pee before we start! So I went to the bathroom which is right beside the main floor where everyone was, and little me forgot to lock the door. Now, with gymnastic suits you need to completely strip when you pee, oh the joy 🙂 And yup you bet it happened … one of the older coaches opened up the door on me and I was exposed to the entire club! I was devastated …. little to say I didn’t wear that suit for a long time!
What is one place you would love to visit and why? I would absolutely love to visit New York in the winter time. Specifically around Christmas! Now, I know this may be very “basic” or whatever, but it would make my heart so happy! To see all their decorations and lights! 🙂 I just picture myself in the movie ELF haha one day I will check this off my list!
If you could only pick one food item to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? Now this is a hard one! I love food #foodie ❤ but I think I might have to go with pizza? I make a mean homemade pizza and its always so good! So maybe? But I also love a good hearty bowl of homemade spag! (spag = spaghetti …. whaddup father unit (aka Howard) <– probably makes the best sauce)
What is your favourite thing about blogging? I love many things about blogging, but my favourite thing at the moment would have to be the little community I have made on here! I have made great friends and I always look forward to our little chats in the comment section!
What is your current favourite song to listen to? This is difficult because, as my sister knows oh too well, I am terrible at knowing song names or artists lol I can’t even think of any right off the top of my head that I know! sorry 😛 I do like a mix of a lot of music though, with my favourite being old rock, country (grew up in Alberta I can’t help it!), and acoustic/contemporary.
What can you binge watch all day? 100% Greys Anatomy all the way. I love that show! I also absolutely love The Office though hah there is never an episode where you aren’t crying because you are laughing too hard!
Name one of your biggest pet peeves? I have a couple but one of them is people who chew with their mouth open! I cannot stand it!
So far what have you done for the day? Well today is Friday and I am off work for the day which is nice! I woke up, worked out, ate breakfast, showered, got ready, and now I am at Starbucks writing this!
Which season is your favourite and why? Well if Christmas was a season itself I would say that, but it isn’t lol. So I would have to say summer. I grew up being outside 24/7 and it makes me appreciate having a few months (more then a few months if you don’t live in Canada haha) where you can do that everyday!
Phew! I am finally done the questions!
My questions for the nominees are:
Do you have any pets? If so, what do you have and if not what pet would you like?
Where were you born and where are you currently living?
What do you believe is your greatest life accomplishment so far?
What is your best childhood memory?
What is your favourite sweet treat?
What are 2 goals you have set for yourself this year?
What is your dream job and what are you doing to get yourself there?
If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Why did you start blogging?
Tropical vacation, snowy vacation, or alpine vacation and why?
I hope you all enjoyed this post and getting to know me a bit better! Nominees you are tagged so get blogging! Friends in the comment section, feel free to answer some or all of the questions too, I would love to hear your answers!
I just wanted to pop in here to see how all of you are doing! I know January is like THE MONTH for resolutions and all of that jazz, and by this time we are usually slipping away from them. So I thought I would update you on how I am doing and then you can do the same in the comments!
The first resolution on my list was to eat more veggies! And so far I am still succeeding with that! We have only gone out to eat once so far this month, and it was for breakfast so I didn’t really make any changes there because I wasn’t going to have a side salad for breakfast haha but I have been absolutely loving those salad mixes from the store! I use to always just make my own salad at home, but then I would waste ingredients because I didn’t find it tasty enough. Now we buy 2 of those salad mixes every week and they are gone by Wednesday! I told my boyfriend we need to start buying 3 because we love them so much! So, if you are struggling with getting those veggies in try the salad mixes. They are always exciting and there are always new ones to try!
Second resolution on my list was to make more time for my blog. Now this one I think I have decently stuck to. I do take my laptop to a coffee shop on the weekends still to work on it, which I enjoy because its me time (aka time away from the boy toy… love you babe 🙂 ). However, I have started to space out my work more so that I don’t cram it all into one day per week like I was doing before. This makes it more enjoyable to do I find! However, sometimes I can get a bit lazy like I did this morning and pick to watch Netflix instead of work on it! Whoops!
And now for my completely failed resolution so far … listen to the news more! I have found this hard to do haha I use to drive a lot because my second job was 35 mins each way, but now I am only at one job which is 5 mins away from my house! So I never listen to the radio anymore. Even at home, we never really watch TV. Netflix is what we go to… so I still need to work on this one. I will keep you guys updated to see how I am doing!
Last but not least, was to go on 1 or 2 good trips! My boyfriend and I are planning to go on one at Christmas, which will be so exciting! It is not set in stone or anything, but we have talked about it… now time to plan and save up! We will also probably do at least 1 in the summer. I am not too worried about getting a head start on this resolution right now since its only 3 weeks into 2018 lol Obviously you guys will know when I go on any trips!
Well, those are my updates. So far 3/4 are going good haha I will get to 4/4 by the end of the year! Also another smaller resolution that kind of goes with eating more veggies and being healthier is sticking to my workout plan! I am currently on week 4/12 of a new program and I have not missed one workout! So I am pretty proud about that 🙂
Don’t forget to update me with your resolutions/goals for 2018 down below! What have you accomplished so far?
Sorry I haven’t posted in a week. I had four days off at Christmas so I put a lot of work into my blog and got quite a few post up for you guys. And then on the early morning of the 28th we were off to Banff for snowboarding and New Years! Hence my lack of posts at the very end of December and thus far into January. You will hear all about the trip in many upcoming posts!
Now I know I am a bit late because it is January 4th and all, but when it was New Years Day I did have my resolutions all in my head! So I thought I would share them with you guys and maybe it will inspire one of you if you haven’t made any yet!
I don’t typically set hundreds of resolutions like some people, but I set a few just so I have something to work towards. Also, this year I decided to set goals to help me achieve these larger resolutions. I usually get too overwhelmed with all these resolutions floating around in my head that by February I push them all aside. So this year I will be trying something new!
1st resolution: Eat more veggies! I will achieve this by at least having one serving of vegetables with lunch and dinner. Also by eating more salads. I never was a huge salad person, but recently we have found a few really good bag mixes of salads, so I will try o eat salad twice a week! Maybe order salad instead of fries when we go out to eat…but that might be pushing it 😉
2nd resolution: Make more time for my blog! The last few months I was so overwhelmed with work and just adult things in life that I would set aside a couple hours on one day a week, usually Sundays, to bust out blog posts and edit pictures. Now, since I am not working so much I am going to schedule in blog hours throughout the week so it does not seem so daunting every Sunday! I really enjoy making posts however, when I have no time it is just another things that stresses me out. So this year that will change!
3rd resolution: Listen to the news more! Either by watching it or reading about what is going on in the world. I always made the excuse that I am too young and its so boring, but I am really going to make an effort to keep updated on current events.
4th resolution: Go on 1 or 2 good trips! My boyfriend and I are usually pretty good about planning trips and saving up for them so I think we will be able to crush this resolution! We set aside money every month into a separate “trip account”, which allows us to go on a trip and not have to worry about dipping into our other savings! It is a good technique that you should try out if you love to travel but need to stay on budget 🙂
I feel like 2018 should be a good year, because parts of 2017 were a struggle and a hard grind to keep going, but in the end it worked out alright. This year, I think will be better. Maybe some new opportunities will arise, going on more adventures, finding a better apartment! Who knows! The possibilities are endless. I am trying to keep positive vibes because my real adult life has only just started. I am so young and have so much time to figure life out..even though I don’t even think most older adults have it all figured out! haha
Taking it one small goal at a time is my moto this year!
Let me know in the comments below if you guys have any resolutions or goals for 2018! Oh and also, my next post will be back to normal with loads of pictures from my Banff trip! We visited a couple other little places and I am so excited to share it with all of you! 🙂
In today’s post I will be sharing a few things that I have learnt in 2017. This year was an interesting one to say the least. Some things did not go as planned, both a mix of better than expected and worse, but none the less it’s all life lessons.
There are many stepping stones in life. Your first job won’t be your last, so just be grateful that you are employed.
Everything takes time. You can’t rush anything in life. I can’t rush into an amazing environmental career just like I can’t make this blog blow up in a day. You need to work hard towards what you want and in time you will get there.
Saying no is harder then saying yes. We have all been in situations where you don’t want to say yes, but saying no feels impossible. Well its not, so next time you want to say no try it out.
Its okay to do things that scare you. Breaking out of your comfort zone is scary but amazing. It will do wonders for you. If I never broke out of mine, I would not have this blog today or be able to share it on facebook for my family to see.
When in doubt listen to your little voice inside you, it probably knows what its talking about. Unless you have anxiety like me, then sometimes you have to ignore it and go grab experiences by the …. well you know 🙂
Less friends = more. I have never had a large friend group and I don’t need one. I love having a few close friends who are truly there for me.
Don’t be afraid to do things by yourself. This year I have really started to do this and it was challenging at first (and still is sometimes). I go exploring for pictures by myself and also edit/write in coffee shops alone. Now I am growing to love me time.
You’ll grow as a person every year. Its okay.
Don’t judge people. Everyone around you has a story that you have no clue about.
You are stronger than you think. Until you are pushed, you will never truly be able to know what you can handle.
Don’t waste your energy on things you can’t control. This is something I need to work on.
Stop overthinking every little thing about your life. Another biggie I need to work on, I have over thought way to much about my life so far. I am young and need to chill out.
There are unlimited things to learn in life. You are never to old to learn!
Listen to your elders even if you just met them, they have some life experience that you don’t. I have met some very intelligent people this year that have come into my life for one conversation and let me tell you, some things they have told me have stuck.
You will never have your life perfectly worked out so just relax and enjoy the ride. Go with the flow! Life is not perfect and neither are you!
If you aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves you will never lose your shirt.(Love ya dad)
Believe in yourself. It does not mater if everyone else believes in you, if you don’t, nothing will happen.
Let me know if any of these resonate with you and if there are any other things you have learnt in 2017 that we can add to the list! Leave them in the comments below 🙂
I hope you all learnt at least one thing in 2017 and that you can use it to improve in 2018!
I hope your day was full of family, friends, food & cheer!
This was our first Christmas together. We got a tree and decorations from Canadian Tire (the most Canadian store ever besides The Real Canadian Superstore hahaha which is where we get our groceries from #CanadianAF) and then my mom bought me a few beautiful flowers for it as well and brought up a few decorations that she had set aside for me. We got our stockings from Walmart #onabudget and then we were all set!
A close up of our tree! We went with a more rustic/gold theme but I know with more years to come, my tree will look more like my moms…just a whole bunch of ornaments that have memories behind them 🙂 Honestly, I cannot wait for those days even though I know my OCD will not like it!
This morning I made homemade cinnamon buns! My first time ever and they were delicious! (you can even ask my boyfriend…he ate 2!)
Fresh out of the oven, I lathered on homemade cream cheese frosting. Best Decision Ever!
And breakfast was served! Not nutritious what so ever, but its Christmas! If you aren’t stuffed full of sugary sweets by 10 am you did something wrong!
Once we were done breakfast and presents I went and got ready. It was our first Christmas without our parents (going home to see them on Christmas break from school) so my boss asked us if we wanted to come over form Christmas dinner. We said yes, of course! She has a lovely family and who could say no to great company on Christmas! This was also my first Christmas where I ate dinner in real clothes! Normally I am in my pj’s all day!
Dinner was at 1 pm and we stayed until 4:30 pm or so. Now we have just been hanging out in our pj’s all night and having some wine (well wine for me … beer for the boy) and watching The Office. One of the greatest shows of all time, so you should definitely check it out, its on Netflix! I eventually went and took a relaxing bath and then Jacob got to play his video game like a little child 🙂
Now I am writing this to you my friends because I wanted to share my Christmas with you and wish you a blessed one as well. I hope you have enjoyed time with loved ones and your tummies are full of good food! Let me know how your day went if you want in the comments below, I would love to hear about what you got up too!
Merry Christmas! You will hear from me again before the new year don’t you worry!
