17 Things 2017 Taught Me

17 Things 2017 Taught Me

Hello friends,

In today’s post I will be sharing a few things that I have learnt in 2017. This year was an interesting one to say the least. Some things did not go as planned, both a mix of better than expected and worse, but none the less it’s all life lessons.

  1. There are many stepping stones in life.ย Your first job won’t be your last, so just be grateful that you are employed.
  2. Everything takes time.ย You can’t rush anything in life. I can’t rush into an amazing environmental career just like I can’t make this blog blow up in a day. You need to work hard towards what you want and in time you will get there.
  3. Saying no is harder then saying yes.ย We have all been in situations where you don’t want to say yes, but saying no feels impossible. Well its not, so next time you want to say no try it out.
  4. Its okay to do things that scare you. Breaking out of your comfort zone is scary but amazing. It will do wonders for you. If I never broke out of mine, I would not have this blog today or be able to share it on facebook for my family to see.
  5. When in doubt listen to your little voice inside you, it probably knows what its talking about. Unless you have anxiety like me, then sometimes you have to ignore it and go grab experiences by the …. well you know ๐Ÿ™‚
  6. Less friends = more.ย  I have never had a large friend group and I don’t need one. I love having a few close friends who are truly there for me.
  7. Don’t be afraid to do things by yourself.ย  This year I have really started to do this and it was challenging at first (and still is sometimes). I go exploring for pictures by myself and also edit/write in coffee shops alone. Now I am growing to love me time.
  8. You’ll grow as a person every year.ย  Its okay.
  9. Don’t judge people. Everyone around you has a story that you have no clue about.
  10. You are stronger than you think.ย Until you are pushed, you will never truly be able to know what you can handle.
  11. Don’t waste your energy on things you can’t control.ย  This is something I need to work on.
  12. Stop overthinking every little thing about your life.ย  Another biggie I need to work on, I have over thought way to much about my life so far. I am young and need to chill out.
  13. There are unlimited things to learn in life.ย  You are never to old to learn!
  14. Listen to your elders even if you just met them, they have some life experience that you don’t.ย  I have met some very intelligent people this year that have come into my life for one conversation and let me tell you, some things they have told me have stuck.
  15. You will never have your life perfectly worked out so just relax and enjoy the ride.ย  Go with the flow! Life is not perfect and neither are you!
  16. If you aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves you will never lose your shirt. (Love ya dad)
  17. Believe in yourself. It does not mater if everyone else believes in you, if you don’t, nothing will happen.

Let me know if any of these resonate with you and if there are any other things you have learnt in 2017 that we can add to the list! Leave them in the comments below ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you all learnt at least one thing in 2017 and that you can use it to improve in 2018!

Until next time,

xoxo

Merry Christmas! | 2017

Merry Christmas friends!

I hope your day was full of family, friends, food & cheer!

This was our first Christmas together. We got a tree and decorations from Canadian Tire (the most Canadian store ever besides The Real Canadian Superstore hahaha which is where we get our groceries from #CanadianAF) and then my mom bought me a few beautiful flowers for it as well and brought up a few decorations that she had set aside for me. We got our stockings from Walmart #onabudget and then we were all set!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

A close up of our tree! We went with a more rustic/gold theme but I know with more years to come, my tree will look more like my moms…just a whole bunch of ornaments that have memoriesย  behind them ๐Ÿ™‚ Honestly, I cannot wait for those days even though I know my OCD will not like it!

This morning I made homemade cinnamon buns! My first time ever and they were delicious! (you can even ask my boyfriend…he ate 2!)

Fresh out of the oven, I lathered on homemade cream cheese frosting. Best Decision Ever!

And breakfast was served! Not nutritious what so ever, but its Christmas! If you aren’t stuffed full of sugary sweets by 10 am you did something wrong!

Once we were done breakfast and presents I went and got ready. It was our first Christmas without our parents (going home to see them on Christmas break from school) so my boss asked us if we wanted to come over form Christmas dinner. We said yes, of course! She has a lovely family and who could say no to great company on Christmas! This was also my first Christmas where I ate dinner in real clothes! Normally I am in my pj’s all day!

Dinner was at 1 pm and we stayed until 4:30 pm or so. Now we have just been hanging out in our pj’s all night and having some wine (well wine for me … beer for the boy) and watching The Office. One of the greatest shows of all time, so you should definitely check it out, its on Netflix! I eventually went and took a relaxing bath and then Jacob got to play his video game like a little child ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I am writing this to you my friends because I wanted to share my Christmas with you and wish you a blessed one as well. I hope you have enjoyed time with loved ones and your tummies are full of good food! Let me know how your day went if you want in the comments below, I would love to hear about what you got up too!

Merry Christmas! You will hear from me again before the new year don’t you worry!

P.S I love you mom and dad, see you soon โค

Until next time,

My 2017

My 2017

Hello friends,

Todays post will be a summary of my 2017 year! Boy oh boy was it an adventure.

From January – April I was finishing up my Bachelors degree and I remember thinking how quick those months flew by. Now looking back on it, I wish they would have slowed down a bit. For those of you who don’t know, I went to Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. It is absolutely gorgeous there so I suggest you pop over to the east coast of Canada if you ever get a chance. Now don’t get me wrong, I was not a huge fan of the gloomy/rainy days, but every place has their beauty.

So once I finished my last exam ever in April, I flew home back to Fort McMurray Alberta. I was there for a few weeks and then my parents and I flew back to Nova Scotia for my graduation. We went about a week early so we could tour around and explore every little corner of this province. It was well worth it. However, my boyfriend did the same thing with his mom and sister and they went to like all the places we did in 2 days! haha like what!

IMG_7838Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetDSC_2280DSC_2211IMG_7873

Anyways, graduation was great. It is such a feeling of accomplishment, especially because all of the hard work you did for the last 4 years has payed off. My parents were so cute at graduation too, it was my moms mothers day gift to watch me graduate…kind of cute how it worked out.

DSC_2563Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCO with hb2 preset

So when it was all said and done we flew back home to Alberta. Then my boyfriend and I went on our graduation trip! We had just moved to Calgary, Alberta Canada and wanted to explore everywhere. So we drove to Jasper, stopped in Emerald Lake, Golden, Revelstoke, Radium, Kelowna, and oh my gosh so much more! It was a trip and a half let me tell you. We did so much that instead of being rested after (like you should be after a vacation) we were exhausted! I have so many blog posts up from this trip so feel free to browse around my blog if you want to see more pics from that trip!

DSC_3537DSC_3232DSC_2865DSC_2790

Now back in Calgary, my boyfriend started his internship for the month of June while I job hunted. I have a degree in Environmental Science however, it is hard to get a entry level job in that field! So I ended up applying to an Anytime Fitness by where we live and I got hired and am still there today. I definitely feel grateful to have gotten that job. The people there are great and I can for sure say my personality has grown since I have started there.

In August I got a second job in retail at a store called Atmosphere. I did this job weekday mornings, while I worked at the gym in the evenings. It was a very exhausting 4 months, but I had to do it. In the new year I will only be working at the gym full-time, which will be a lot better! haha

So the last few months of 2017 have been busy, stressful, but also great because I know that whatever I set my mind to do I can achieve. I was working 58 hours a week plus uploading 2 blog posts and doing all my other adult responsibilities…and sure I was tired but I got it done. So I am so excited to see what 2018 will bring with this blog when I don’t have to work so much. I can really dedicate more time to it.

I have something very exciting coming up in the new year that I will fill you guys in on later. It will benefit my blog greatly.

Now to wrap up 2017!

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Until next time,

xoxo

Christmas Sugar Cookies |2017

Christmas Sugar Cookies |2017

Hello friends,

One Christmas tradition of mine is to bake cookies before Christmas, and so far this season I have not made any! So last night I asked Jacob (the boyfriend) what kind of cookies we should make, and he said Sugar Cookies! And so you have it, that is what we made today ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I have never actually made sugar cookies before believe it or not. I have usually made snickerdoodle or ginger molasses cookies (my moms favourite) around this time of year. This is partially because whenever I would be baking, my dad would be like “there better not be any sugar in those”, so therefore it would be pretty hard to make sugar cookies!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

So, with my dad not being here I could make them! haha love ya dad… mom would have let me! โค

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

For once in my life too, I actually listened to the recipe and set the butter out on the counter to get to room temperature rather then just microwaving it haha which is what I normally do! We followed the instructions exactly and they came out great!

The recipe called for candy cane Hersey Kisses, but we couldn’t find any in all of the stores we tried! So we decided to pick out a few types of chocolate for the toppings and ended up going with Hersey Hugs, macaroons, and mini rolos!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

While I was attempting to take some decent food photos, my boyfriend was drooling all over and frustrating me. He also likes to tell me how/where to take pictures so I got mad at him and then he finally laid down on the couch so I could finish my work. I am not very good with food pictures because I don’t take them very often but here are a few shots!

If you want the recipe for these cookies it will be linked here. I would highly recommend this recipe, because its delicious! We made a half batch of the sugar/vanilla cookies, which made 12 cookies, so definitely enough for the 2 of us with all the other sweets at this time of the year!

Have you baked any Christmas cookies yet, and if so what kind?! Or what is your favourite kind to bake and eat? Leave your cookie answers in the comments below! ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time,

xoxo

Christmas Blessings | 2017

Christmas Blessings | 2017

Hello friends,

Todays post will be about all the many things I feel blessed for. Christmas is absolutely my favourite time of the year, even though it is snowy and cold outside! I got the post idea from Susie Lindau’s Wild Ride, click here for her post!

I thought to myself as I was reading her post, wow this is such a great idea to write about around Christmas time. I feel like so many people say what they are thankful for around thanksgiving, but during Christmas everyone is so busy it is easy to forget what it is really about. Now I love Christmas lights and decorations so I can get distracted by those around this time of the year, but it really is not about any of that. And believe it or not, Christmas is not about gifts either. However, I understand that giving gifts is a way of showing love towards another person, but we cannot get caught up in them!

Christmas is truly about being around your family and celebrating life and love and the joy that this season brings. So without any more delay, here are some of the things I feel very blessed to have in my life:

I feel very blessed to have my amazing family, boyfriend & friends in my life …

My friends ๐Ÿ™‚

My parents of course!ย

And you can’t forget about the fur babies too!

I feel very blessed to be in such good health

And for the roof over my head at night and food in my belly.

I feel very blessed to be surrounded by the beauty of the rockies just an hour away

And all of the wildlife I have been able to see my entire life.

I feel so blessed that I have been able to travel even though I am so young and just starting out.

I hope you enjoyed this little post and let me know in the comments below what you feel blessed for this Christmas year. Also, some of these pictures may not be the best quality, but that is not what this post is really about ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time,

My New Lens!

My New Lens!

Hello friends,

Todays post will be about an early Christmas gift from my parents! I cannot tell you how extremely excited I am about this particular gift! It is by far my favourite one I have ever gotten I believe. They let me pick out a new lens for my camera and bought it for me. I am so very grateful for them and their generosity to help me continue to pursue my passion.

So I am not sure if I have ever mentioned this before, but the camera I use to take most of the shots you’ve seen is a Nikon D7000. Now I do have two lenses, which are over 4 years old now. I have an 18-105 mm and a 10-20 mm lens. Now I usually use the 18-105 mm one because it allows me to zoom more then my other one.

So for my grade 12 graduation my parents got me this brand new camera because I had a very mediocre one before and I loved taking photos. Little did they know that I would fall in love with photography. Throughout the last four years, my mom always asked me if I wanted a new lens for my birthday or christmas and I said no “I will let you know when I have out grown these ones”. And folks .. that time has come!

IMG_9122

IMG_9114

My new lens is on the left. It doesn’t look too much larger here but you just wait!

IMG_9115

Here it is. Oh my gosh so beautiful!

IMG_9116

IMG_9117

IMG_9118

Way better zoom on this lens! So excited to try it out!

IMG_9119

IMG_9120

So lets welcome my new baby into the family! Sorry about these pictures of the lens though.. I had to use my iphone haha

I just wanted to once again thank my parents for this amazing gift. I definitely would not be as knowledgeable about photography as I am today without their support. โค ๐Ÿ™‚

The next post you see with pictures will be with my new lens! Let me know if you guys can see the difference between the two!

Until next time,

xoxo

Christmas Tag! 2017

Christmas Tag! 2017

Hello friends,

Today’s post will be a little bit different and more festive than usual! This whole month will be festive so watch out! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  If you don’t know, I love Christmas and I have seen a few of these tag posts going around so I thought I would hop on board! Here we go ๐Ÿ™‚

Q1. What is your favourite Christmas movie?

Well I will be honest, it is definitely tough just picking one, but if I have to it would be National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I also absolutely love The Grinch and Elf (also Home Alone!) as well as many other Christmas movies, but this question only lets me choose one!

Q2. Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

I have always opened my presents Christmas morning! We never even open one present on Christmas Eve. However, I think my boyfriend and I might start the tradition to open one small gift on Christmas Eve .. mostly because he is very impatient haha

Q3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?ย

One of my favourite Christmas memories would have to be when I was younger, my dad would always read the book The Night Before Christmas to my sister and I before we went to bed on Christmas Eve. I think he read it to us till we were going off to university! haha

Q4. Favourite festive food?ย

I definitely have to say the Christmas sweets. I love the dinner food don’t get me wrong, but hot chocolate and ginger cookies have always had a sweet spot (haha get it?) with me at Christmas because it brings back so many memories. My mom and I would always go get hot chocolate (well she would get a coffee ..) go look at all the Christmas lights!

Q5. Favourite Christmas gift?ย

Hands down, 100% my favourite gift ever would have to be the early one my parents got me this year. It is a new lens for my camera! 18-400 mm lens! I am so excited to use it and share the pictures with all of you!

Q6. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Yes for sure I do! We always watched National lampoons Christmas Vacation together in front of the fire place with the puppies! And when we were younger, like I said my dad would read The Night Before Christmas to us and we would put out cookies for Santa. Now though, I won’t be home for Christmas, so new traditions may start this year! ๐Ÿ™‚

Q7. Favourite Christmas scent?

Not quite sure what this one means? But I really enjoy the smell of freshly baked cookies coming out of the oven! Especially after walking in out of the cold! Or the smell when you bring a freshly cut Christmas tree into the house!

Q8. What tops your tree?

Well when I was little we had a big Santa that was our tree topper, but then when I was probably like 12 we got a very beautiful light up angel! Now I am not living at home any more so this is my first Christmas with my own tree, and we have a light up star as our tree topper… it was a decently cheap price at Walmartย  #budgetChristmas

Q9. What is the best part about Christmas for you?

Well if you know me at all, you know I absolutely love Christmas decorations especially lights! Indoor or outdoor everything has to be decorated! So the best part for me is when I drive around and see every ones lights and decorations. It gets me in the Christmas spirit ๐Ÿ™‚

Well that is all I have for you guys today! Let me know if you enjoyed this tag and if there are any other ones you want me to do! Feel free to answer these questions in the comments below, or if you have a blog I now tag all of you to answer them in a post and leave the link in the comments!

Until next time,

xoxo

Fall in Calgary | October, 2017

Fall in Calgary | October, 2017

Hello friends,

Today my post is about my exploration of Calgary’s fall! It is my first time living in Calgary during the fall so I obviously need to explore where to find the best pictures! Now let me take you through my Sunday …

It started out good, I slept in until around 8 (which is very nice considering I get up at 5:30 or 6:30 am throughout the week) and then I got straight to work! I baked and then cleaned and did laundry. Went to Costco and then I had to wait around at home for someone to stop by and pick something up. Then I went to Superstore for the rest of my groceries, got home, and cooked a few meals for the upcoming week. By the time I was finished with all that it was almost 5 o’clock!

However, once all of that was done I decided I needed to head out to get some fall pictures seeing as half the leaves are already gone!! (Edit: it also snowed today! So I am very happy I went haha) I decided to go to Nose Hill Park in Calgary, but what I didn’t realize was that it closed ten minutes after I got there! And that I had to go on a hike to get any good pictures, which I was not prepared for nor had the energy for. So long story short, my first stop was a fail!

DSC_4136
The only half decent picture I got from Nose Hill Park

Then I decided to go to Crescent Heights because we were there at new years and I remembered it having a good view of the city and boy was I right! This entire street gives you a stunning view of Calgary as well as the river and trees that surround it. I was soo happy I chose to go there next! Here are some pictures from my hour or so there, I will have another post with more!

I know they kind of all look similar, but if you’re into photography you can appreciate the little differences!

I hope you enjoyed the fall colours of these pictures! I love catching the leaves changing. Do you like going exploring in the fall to see how the scenery around you changes? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

Calgary Stampede 2017

Calgary Stampede 2017

Hello friends,

As most of you know, the Calgary Stampede has just ended. The Calgary Stampede runs from July 6 to the 17th. It is insane and jam packed with fun things to do. There is a million and one food trucks, which are delicious and very cool looking, many rides, a big petting zoo, drinks, music, games, shows and much much more!

This year was my first time going because I have never been in Calgary during the Stampede before, but now that I live here I felt obligated to head downtown and see what all the hype was about! The crowds are massive, but it is an experience I feel that everyone should have. What I will say though is bring lots of cash because you will blow through it quite quickly! Parking was $40!! However, now i know that taking the train to the event is much cheaper then paying for parking…rookie mistake.

I hope you guys enjoy the pictures of all the people, food and fun that was the Calgary Stampede!
