Do you guys even remember me? Remember who I am or my purpose being here? Well if you don’t it is okay, because a lot has changed since I have posted last.
I have been meaning to write this post for a while. I have no clue where to begin. Life happens. Shit changes. We move on.
That pretty much sums up my 2019 so far.
Life update: I am still doing my same job, environmental consultant, just with a different company. I have moved a few times to different apartments, but I am still technically in the Ottawa area. I have fallen out of relationships, gone through some pretty crazy ones, and have began new ones with new people. One thing I have learned is to not let anyone stunt your growth as a person; same goes for aspirations. I have learned to surround myself with people that will lift me up rather than drag me down and tie up my wings. (FYI if you ever want to fly, you need those wings to spread)
I am still young I know, however I am gradually getting older (this is a fact that most of us like to ignore). Still being in the faze of my life that I am (aka not knowing what the heck I am doing) its slightly scary. Although, I have realized that it does not need to be as scary as it seems when you learn to care less about other peoples judgement. I am just doing my own thing, getting by in life while I try to figure out my end goals.
Now I have yet to come to a conclusion yet about what those end goals are, but I am attempting to piece together little goals regarding the bigger final picture. Maybe one day I will figure all these pieces out and share my strategy with you. Until then though, I will keep writing aimless blogs about my life and weird adventures I go on.
Oh and on another note, you will all be very excited about this – or at least should be, I am now a mother! I know I know you probably were not expecting this, but I am the proud mother of a puppy. She is one of the best decisions I have ever made in life. I am not going to give too much away about her right now because that will be the next post, so you will have to stay tuned!
That is all the word vomit I have for you at the moment. Please leave comments below letting me know how you guys have been. I want to know what is new with you and if anything exciting has happened!
Todays post will be a food review – woo! Who doesn’t like hearing about good food possibly near you!
This past Saturday for our treat meal we (myself and the boy) decided to get some donuts. We like to treat ourselves once a week if we are feeling it because throughout the week we work hard, eat relatively clean, and are quite active. Usually it is me asking my boyfriend if he wouldn’t mind donuts for our treat meal but this time he asked me and I was like hell-to-the-yah.
The donut place we decided on is called Maverick’s Donut Company. They have two locations in Ottawa and have very good hours for a donut shop! You can pretty much get them whenever you want. Also, they do have vegan options as well as regular which I think is pretty cool.
As we approached the donuts I thought hmm let me take some pictures so I can give a review to my followers if they are ever in the area and are craving some donuts!
First of all, I think their branding is as cute as can be. I have always loved this teal blue colour and when you mix it with that crisp white it is magical. It draws the eye for sure.
Inside the shop they always have donuts fresh out of the oven and it smells heavenly. They have the little ones or big ones, whichever you please. Now I have never tried the little ones, but one day I will!
Their stock was a bit depleted when we came in because it was like 3 in the afternoon, but there were fresh new flavours right behind them!
Most of the donuts they have are cake donuts, so more dense then the traditional yeast ones. I enjoyed them though! Cake or yeast donut – I will eat it haha
We ended up choosing a box of 6 to try out. We couldn’t just go and only get one or two people!
We tried out their cinnamon bun, peanut butter chocolate, pumpkin spice, m&m, cookies & cream, and maple bacon (respectively listed from left to right, top to bottom row).
I would have to say my favourite was the maple bacon – always loved a good maple donut since I was little. My go to at Tim Hortons was either a vanilla sprinkle donut or maple dipped haha still to this day I will get a maple dip when I go there! Anyways back to the review! I also loved the cinnamon bun one because I love cinnamon. If you are a chocolate and peanut butter lover I would highly recommend trying theirs out – it wasn’t overly rich and the peanut butter topping was so smooth.
All of their flavours taste as they advertise so you know what you are getting! With some flavours too you can pick either vanilla or chocolate for the donut body haha I don’t know how else to say it – you know like the base of the donut.
They were all moist and have a good ratio of topping to dough. In conclusion, I would recommend trying Maverick’s Donut Company out if you are in the area and craving donuts. These delicious circles will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth! Thanks Maverick’s for making my Saturday as sweet as can be!
Do you guys like donuts? If you do whats your favourite flavour?
Today’s post will be about my experience doing the walk around Pink Lake in Gatineau, Quebec Canada. Currently I live in Ottawa, so it takes absolutely no time at all for me to drive to Quebec, which is good because Gatineau is full of fun walks and hikes to do! If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I love going on hikes! I love the feeling of being surrounded by natures beauty and exploring it.
For me, it took about 45 minutes to get there. Once we arrived, there were two places to park. We stopped at the first parking lot we saw, the look off, before even knowing there was another larger parking lot a minute further down the road! The lake was very busy on the Sunday that we went. Probably due to the beautiful day and summer coming to an end – everyone needed to get out and enjoy the last bit of warm weather! My boyfriend and I scoped out the look off and then headed out for the walk!
The trails were well maintained and you could tell they tried to leave the environment as natural as possible. They even had signs along the trail to remind people to stay on the path instead of trampling through everywhere. Now as you look through the pictures you’ll see that this lake is in fact not pink at all! Its actually more of a green colour.
Pink Lake is a meromictic lake – the upper and lower layers of the lake do not mix. In most lakes, these layers mix every spring and fall with the change in water and air temperature, water density and wind. The mixing ensures nutrients and oxygen are distributed evenly throughout the lake!
The shape of Pink Lake and the valley it sits in allows it to be blocked from the wind and therefore no oxygen reaches the bottom of the lake. The green tint of the lake is due to microscopic algae, which even though a green lake looks cool, is harmful. This vegetation gradually overtakes the lake causing it to suffocate.
With the massive amount of visitors this lake gets, the eutrophication process has sped up. This is why new boardwalk trails have been built in attempt to preserve this natural ecosystem for many more generations to enjoy. Many volunteers helped with this project as well as planted over 10,000 trees. Erosion is an impact that occurs at busy tourist sites, which is what the parks people are trying to mitigate.
So please, stay on the trails and respect the nature you’re in! 🙂
Little guys like this need their ecosystems functioning properly to survive.
The walk is definitely beginner friendly and roughly took us an hour with me stopping every two steps to take more pictures. If you look along the trail right besides the lake you can spot a million frogs and we also saw turtles!
Not a huge fan of these guys up close, but with my zoom lens I don’t mind admiring from a distance!
The weather for our walk was a mix of sun and clouds. I would usually be standing around waiting for the sun to try different styles of pictures, however this standing around time allowed me to get some artsy shots and play with my focus.
Reflection pictures would have to be one of my favourite kinds! This definitely is not a perfect reflection picture, but to be honest I didn’t even realize there was a reflection until I looked at the pictures once I got back home!
By the end of the walk we were so sweaty from the humidity I was just snapping random pictures and not really paying attention, but sometimes those are the best pictures!
In conclusion, I recommend going on the Pink Lake walk if you are in the area and want something to do! Great if you have kids too so they can see all the frogs!
What is the coolest colour of lake that you guys have been to?
Todays post is going to be about my experience seeing Buckingham Palace in a torrential downpour! Not the best way to see it, but it was our only option!
We took the tube to get here which was an experience in itself so I will have a separate blog post on that!
To get to Buckingham Palace from the tube stop we got off at, you had to walk on a path through this massive field. Everyone was in a bit of a rush considering the weather so we made it there in a timely manner! It was incredible walking up to these golden gates – even if we were getting soaked through to the undies! I remember thinking – how in the world am I going to get any pictures in this weather?! I did not want to get my camera wet!
My dad and I went to this little food truck stand and I hid under the foot wide canopy by their service window trying to get some pictures. I got a few, but nothing amazing – I wanted to go get a better view! (Spoiler – you can’t get a great shot of the Buckingham Palace in a torrential downpour)
Here we are now at the front of the palace. I enjoy going to these touristy places however, I don’t like all the people in my pictures! When we arrived at the front of the palace, I thought it was going to be larger to be honest! I was not disappointed or anything though, it was still incredible to see!
When we moved our way closer I noticed all the curtains were drawn – I do understand that for privacy, but it must be pretty dark and gloomy in there! Also, I wonder if they have updated the inside of the palace to have insulation to keep the heat inside? Otherwise it must take a lot of money to heat that place!
There were also guards with machine guns at every door! I knew she would have guards, but for some reason the machine guns surprised me – which they shouldn’t of! haha These guys were loaded with weapons!
Now, this is a funny one. When we were farther away my family was debating whether this guy was real or a doll haha obviously he is real but he never moved an inch so he looked fake! I felt bad for the guy because it was quite cold outside, and he can’t even moved around to warm up! He was also probably getting wet because the rain was blowing around.
I had to zoom up to the front doors because they were gorgeous! Look at all that detail and gold! I could not even imagine how much work it was to make those doors. The architecture of the Buckingham Palace was absolutely stunning.
Even the light posts surrounding the palace had gold accents! So much gold and its all kept in amazing shape too where everything else surrounding it has been grown over with moss.
Now below is the famous London Black Taxi! I heard so much about these and seen them in all the movies filmed in the UK so I wanted to capture one on camera for myself! Everyone in London said they are very overpriced so it is better to uber around or take the tube – so we did just that. However, it was still extremely cool to see them driving around the crazy traffic in London!
Have you ever been to Buckingham Palace or is it on your list of places to see? Let me know in the comments below and add in any cool facts you know about it too!
Todays post is going to be a food review from my time spent in the United Kingdom! I have only done a few of these on my blog, but I should really start doing more because I love trying out new restaurants. People just give me weird looks when I take pictures!
Anyways, todays food review is of a little burger joint called Burger Theory. We went there on our first night in Bristol with my sister and her boyfriend. Obviously they are the ones who suggested it because they live there!
First impressions of this place – it looks pretty cool and like there might be good burgers inside. Now I will just tell you all, growing up in Alberta, Canada I have had many amazing burgers – to this day I don’t think I have had any burgers better then the ones I have had in Alberta.
But back to Burger Theory. I absolutely loved the vibe of this place. The inside was so cute and cozy however all the rustic wood made it feel like you were about to get a good/hardy meal in you.
I absolutely loved the wooden roof and the light fixtures that they chose. I feel as if it complimented the layout of the restaurant and the vibe they were trying to achieve. The atmosphere was incredibly warm and welcoming too.
They had a cool saying written above the arches – in summary, they make most of the food they serve from scratch including their sauces and pickled vegetables – and let me tell you, their homemade ketchup was bomb.
So of course, the first thing you order at a restaurant is a drink. Since I was somewhere new in the world, I wanted to try a local favourite (or at least a restaurant favourite). My sister and the waiter said this rhubarb cider was the drink to get, so I did. I had no clue what to expect since I have never had rhubarb and cider combined before, but it was very refreshing and delicious! Definitely no potent alcohol taste at all – I would recommend trying one if you ever visit the UK and just want a light drink!
By this time, we have ordered and are ravenous. I have drank most of my drink and since I have the smallest bladder in the world I ventured out to find the washroom. Every washroom I encountered on this trip was incredibly tiny, so I kept my eyes peeled for the little door.
Oh also, instead of saying washroom most say toilets, which I actually enjoyed quite a bit haha I felt so British saying toilets instead of washroom.
Anyways! Do you see how tiny this sink is – its one of the largest sinks I saw on this trip. I could almost wash my hands without hitting the sides of it. Most of the sinks I used, you had to wash one hand at a time or you’d make a mess!
Their taps are also different then I am used to. One is hot and the other is cold … so if you want warm water I believe maybe you plug the sink and then wash your hands in there? If anyone knows the reasoning behind the completely separate temperature taps please let me know!
Since everything is so tiny in the UK, they have signs everywhere saying “mind your head” and you really have to pay attention to it because you will hit your head if you don’t duck!
Once I arrived back from my toilet adventure the food was there. All nice and warm ready to be devoured!
The Burger Theory has so many options to choose from, you can basically get whatever kind of burger your little heart desires. I believe I got a bacon cheese burger, which is usually my go to, and it was the best burger I had on my whole trip. I had about three burgers while I was in the UK and its not their strong suit. However, this burger was pretty darn good. My sister, and mom I believe, got the vegan burgers and they also enjoyed them. So this restaurant is great for a range of burger eaters. All are welcome!
We were so stuffed from the meals that we didn’t get desert, which is rare for me, but I think my sister probably told me we could get ice cream or something to get me to leave!
This was in total a great first UK burger experience and I would recommend trying it out if you happen to be strolling past one craving a burger!
If you’ve been following me for a while, or even looked back at some of my more personal posts, you would know I am passionate about protecting the environment. This is why I love taking an absurd amount of pictures of all the wildlife and beautiful landscapes I see. I do this not only to be able to look back on and remember the amazing trips and memories that came with these pictures, but to be able to spread knowledge about how amazing the natural environment is. The human race, let alone every other living organism on this planet, desperately needs the environment to be healthy.
I truly believe the “average Joe” can make a difference in the end. If everyone became more conscious of the waste they produce and how they dispose of it – the environment could become a lot healthier just from that alone.
Have you ever just stopped to think how much waste you produced today? How many things you threw in the garbage – maybe some of those “garbage” items could have been recycled as well. Do you ever consider not putting those 2 avocados into a plastic bag that will ultimately end up in our worlds oceans – and instead just placing them in your cart?
If you have never thought about your individual impact on our environment, hopefully this little blog will help you do so. Since before I hit double digits, I made my parents start recycling – way before it was even cool to think about the environment. I don’t know what clicked in little adolescent me, but it was for the better. Now my parents literally recycle everything they can and I could not be more proud.
I encourage everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle the most they can. Donate old clothing, furniture, etc. to local charities instead of throwing out perfectly good items into the landfills – someone else will get use out of them and be thankful for your donation.
I have spontaneously been hit by my inner tree hugger and frog whisperer self when I heard it was World Oceans Day late last week. I thought it was important to spread the awareness about the disgusting amount of plastic that is found in the oceans these days. It just swirls around in the water suffocating the beautiful lives attempting to thrive.
Some of the most common types of garbage found in the oceans are:
Plastic bottles and bags
Plastic straws and utensils
Beverage cans and disposable cups
These items are very dangerous to the species that live in our oceans. Next time you consider using one of these, think again.
Spread the word guys, lets all try to be more conscious about are negative impacts on the environment. I will be sharing more posts in the future about how I change my daily habits to lessen my footprint on our beautiful world.
So, the adventure continues. Today was our only full day to explore the Northwest Territories and we definitely did just that. Once we all woke up, we headed downstairs to the same Chinese restaurant for breakfast. And no, we did not have Chinese food for breakfast I know all of you were thinking that, we had normal eggs and other breakfasty foods. It actually wasn’t too bad, except my mom tried multiple blueberry jams for her toast and they were all rock solid! Good thing I like raspberry jam on mine! haha
With full bellies and a charge camera battery we were off. First we drove around the town of Fort Smith, mind you its not very big so it didn’t eat up too much of the day! We came to the “far” side of town (literally 2 minute drive from the side we were on) and came up to this beautiful view.
Looking off into the distance you could see how the ice wasn’t completely solid, which kind of sketched me out thinking that we have to drive on ice to get home! haha
It was still snowing this morning however the sun was trying to peak through the clouds, which it eventually did later in the day.
The place we stopped at was also where the kids come to snowboard, which I thought was pretty cool! They made a little terrain park for themselves and had it all set up nicely. I guarantee those kids would come home dead and exhausted after being here for a few hours. Snowboarding down would be loads of fun, but if you haven’t noticed yet there is no chairlift or magic carpet to bring them back up to the top!
They set up a pretty big jump at the bottom of the main hill here, and if you picked up enough speed I think you would launch right into the bush!
While we were still in that area, we drove down the little road to the water. People do live on that island out there, and one would think hmm there are no roads to get there so how do they come into town? If you scroll down through these pictures you will see that there are little trees on the ice as markers of where the “safe” ice is to come across on. This also helps to mark their path when it is snowing heavily.
Below you can see the path more clearly that people use. Everyone in these little towns drives quads or skidoos and things like that. Which makes sense to get across ice easier and drive around the small town.
Once done exploring the town, we decided to drive down the highway looking for wildlife, hoping to spot something really cool….like wild wood bison (spoiler: the finding bison thing didn’t happen). I believe it was only like an hour and a bit into the drive and two massive wolves came flying out of the forest, bounded through the deep snow, crossed the road and disappeared into the bush on the other side. It was an awe struck moment and I didn’t get any pictures of them!! I was actually like a crushed kid on Christmas morning that didn’t get the toy they wanted. I stupidly tried shooting through the trucks front window with a million cracks in it (#Albertawindshield) and my camera freaked out, it was the first time in all my life getting an error message on the camera screen.
I kid you not, I have seen wolves before, but this was a whole new level of jaw dropping amazing. These wolves were probably around 160 pounds and their fur was absolutely stunning. They also bounded through the deep snow as smooth as a fish swims through water, just incredible. By this time the snowfall was clearing and their fur glistened in the sunlight. A moment I will never forget…but also wished I could have captured it.
So with all of us being awe struck by those two beautiful creatures we continued the drive in hopes of coming across more beautiful animals.
Every turnoff my dad saw he took it, even though on his truck map you could see that it was just a loop. Every time he would get so disappointed that it was just a loop and not a road leading to somewhere cool. Eventually I pointed it out to him that before he turns he could see how long the road is and we all had a good laugh about that. Even after I showed him he kept doing it and then laughing when the road would end saying “oh well I guess I could have looked at the map”.
At the end of our drive we came back into town to fill up the truck, since tomorrow morning we were heading out. And the back of the truck was covered once again in snow and sand from the drive. My mom and I went into this gas station while my dad was filling the truck up to explore. Inside they had a little Tim Hortons, which I though “of course how Canadian” and the rest looked like a pretty normal gas station just with extremely high snack prices. Now these snack prices didn’t deter my mom and I haha even though my dad wasn’t too pleased with us! Girls gotta have snacks okay!
We finished the night off with literally the best pizza I have had in my life. It was so good, I could have eaten it for breakfast lunch and dinner. The place was called Berro’s Pizzeria. 10/10 would recommend. I was skeptical thinking oh just another meh meal, but was I ever wrong. They had all the awards he was given up around the restaurant, which was cool to see and they also had local pictures up too. Once the pizza was done and our number was called, we dug right in. There was no time for pictures because we were starving and salivating over it. We ate breakfast that day and then just some road snacks, nothing too substantial, so you could say we were hungry!
After that very satisfying meal, we headed back out for another journey before calling it a night, which will be where I start my next post. Make sure to subscribe if you want to continue reliving my adventures.
What is the best pizza you have ever had? I bet it wasn’t in the Northwest Territories! Leave me a comment below 🙂

If you could pick any age to be again what age would it be and why? I would pick to go back to when I was 7 or 8? The age you were in grade 3! haha I would love to go back to that age because firstly I miss being a kid lol but I also had a great teacher that year, Madame Jenkins. At Christmas time (my most favourite time of year, as you all very well know) she had this amazing book of christmas gnomes. She would read us a chapter everyday until break. I had never loved school that much haha story time was the best!
Name one of your most embarrassing moments? Now let me just say, I have had quite a few haha but for now I will settle with sharing just one… to save you all from cringing too much! I grew up doing competitive gymnastics and probably around age 6 I would say, this embarrassing moment happened. I was wearing my brand new vibrant pink gym suit that had a checkered pattern on it, which I called my picnic basket suit lol, for the first time. And lucky for me, it was one of those training sessions where the ENTIRE gym does a warm up together … yup keep that in your mind. So I thought I should pee before we start! So I went to the bathroom which is right beside the main floor where everyone was, and little me forgot to lock the door. Now, with gymnastic suits you need to completely strip when you pee, oh the joy 🙂 And yup you bet it happened … one of the older coaches opened up the door on me and I was exposed to the entire club! I was devastated …. little to say I didn’t wear that suit for a long time!
What is one place you would love to visit and why? I would absolutely love to visit New York in the winter time. Specifically around Christmas! Now, I know this may be very “basic” or whatever, but it would make my heart so happy! To see all their decorations and lights! 🙂 I just picture myself in the movie ELF haha one day I will check this off my list!
If you could only pick one food item to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? Now this is a hard one! I love food #foodie ❤ but I think I might have to go with pizza? I make a mean homemade pizza and its always so good! So maybe? But I also love a good hearty bowl of homemade spag! (spag = spaghetti …. whaddup father unit (aka Howard) <– probably makes the best sauce)
What is your favourite thing about blogging? I love many things about blogging, but my favourite thing at the moment would have to be the little community I have made on here! I have made great friends and I always look forward to our little chats in the comment section!
What is your current favourite song to listen to? This is difficult because, as my sister knows oh too well, I am terrible at knowing song names or artists lol I can’t even think of any right off the top of my head that I know! sorry 😛 I do like a mix of a lot of music though, with my favourite being old rock, country (grew up in Alberta I can’t help it!), and acoustic/contemporary.
What can you binge watch all day? 100% Greys Anatomy all the way. I love that show! I also absolutely love The Office though hah there is never an episode where you aren’t crying because you are laughing too hard!
Name one of your biggest pet peeves? I have a couple but one of them is people who chew with their mouth open! I cannot stand it!
So far what have you done for the day? Well today is Friday and I am off work for the day which is nice! I woke up, worked out, ate breakfast, showered, got ready, and now I am at Starbucks writing this!
Which season is your favourite and why? Well if Christmas was a season itself I would say that, but it isn’t lol. So I would have to say summer. I grew up being outside 24/7 and it makes me appreciate having a few months (more then a few months if you don’t live in Canada haha) where you can do that everyday!
Phew! I am finally done the questions!
My questions for the nominees are:
Do you have any pets? If so, what do you have and if not what pet would you like?
Where were you born and where are you currently living?
What do you believe is your greatest life accomplishment so far?
What is your best childhood memory?
What is your favourite sweet treat?
What are 2 goals you have set for yourself this year?
What is your dream job and what are you doing to get yourself there?
If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Why did you start blogging?
Tropical vacation, snowy vacation, or alpine vacation and why?
I hope you all enjoyed this post and getting to know me a bit better! Nominees you are tagged so get blogging! Friends in the comment section, feel free to answer some or all of the questions too, I would love to hear your answers!
I just wanted to pop in here to see how all of you are doing! I know January is like THE MONTH for resolutions and all of that jazz, and by this time we are usually slipping away from them. So I thought I would update you on how I am doing and then you can do the same in the comments!
The first resolution on my list was to eat more veggies! And so far I am still succeeding with that! We have only gone out to eat once so far this month, and it was for breakfast so I didn’t really make any changes there because I wasn’t going to have a side salad for breakfast haha but I have been absolutely loving those salad mixes from the store! I use to always just make my own salad at home, but then I would waste ingredients because I didn’t find it tasty enough. Now we buy 2 of those salad mixes every week and they are gone by Wednesday! I told my boyfriend we need to start buying 3 because we love them so much! So, if you are struggling with getting those veggies in try the salad mixes. They are always exciting and there are always new ones to try!
Second resolution on my list was to make more time for my blog. Now this one I think I have decently stuck to. I do take my laptop to a coffee shop on the weekends still to work on it, which I enjoy because its me time (aka time away from the boy toy… love you babe 🙂 ). However, I have started to space out my work more so that I don’t cram it all into one day per week like I was doing before. This makes it more enjoyable to do I find! However, sometimes I can get a bit lazy like I did this morning and pick to watch Netflix instead of work on it! Whoops!
And now for my completely failed resolution so far … listen to the news more! I have found this hard to do haha I use to drive a lot because my second job was 35 mins each way, but now I am only at one job which is 5 mins away from my house! So I never listen to the radio anymore. Even at home, we never really watch TV. Netflix is what we go to… so I still need to work on this one. I will keep you guys updated to see how I am doing!
Last but not least, was to go on 1 or 2 good trips! My boyfriend and I are planning to go on one at Christmas, which will be so exciting! It is not set in stone or anything, but we have talked about it… now time to plan and save up! We will also probably do at least 1 in the summer. I am not too worried about getting a head start on this resolution right now since its only 3 weeks into 2018 lol Obviously you guys will know when I go on any trips!
Well, those are my updates. So far 3/4 are going good haha I will get to 4/4 by the end of the year! Also another smaller resolution that kind of goes with eating more veggies and being healthier is sticking to my workout plan! I am currently on week 4/12 of a new program and I have not missed one workout! So I am pretty proud about that 🙂
Don’t forget to update me with your resolutions/goals for 2018 down below! What have you accomplished so far?
